Often times you will encounter many bots during a match, whether in groups or just joining as single bots mid-game. Other bot classes do exist such as Heavy, Scout, and Medic, but they are less common.

What defines the bot epidemic is that in lobby games you will likely encounter at least one bot every single game with a bot typically being a specific Sniper loadout optimized for survivability, a high bandwidth of headshots, and particularly annoying cosmetics. This current bot epidemic has been going on continuously since roughly February of last year. TF2 bots have been a thing for years, but they have generally come and gone in short waves or been relegated to only certain maps. Preventing this seems simple enough, some very basic things could be put in place to put an end (or a least greatly limit) these bots. TF2 is consistently in Steam's Top 10, which could very well be due to the huge number of bots. They clearly do not care, presumably their profits from TF2/the TF2 market have not decreased (I have no idea how). They implemented some minor things, like making F2P accounts unable to use voice-chat (bots would blare music or racist slurs) but that's about it. Valve has done pretty much nothing to fix this. I was just kicked out of two seperate matches by bots. Since the bot issue is so bad, people almost always vote 'yes' immediately without thinking. More recently, bots have started using names of other plays on the server and even calling their own votes on non-bots.

The bots got smart, firstly by changing their names to something less obvious. Normally a player can call a vote on a server to kick the bot, which usually works. They take the form on computer controlled Snipers that use aimbot to one-hit kill headshot other players.Īnnoying as that sounds, it goes further. Presumably if you run a farm of these bots, they can farm enough items to sell for real world money. The game has been overrun by bots that are 'playing' to farm the random item drops. TF2 in its current state is basically unable.
